About Common Temperature Scales
Temperature is a physical quantity expressing hot and cold. Different scales are used across meteorology, science, and engineering based on different historical reference points.
🌍 Celsius (°C)
The most widely used scale globally. Originally based on the freezing point of water at 0°C and boiling point at 100°C at 1 atm.
🗽 Fahrenheit (°F)
Used primarily in the United States. Water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F.
🔬 Kelvin (K)
The base unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI). Its zero point is absolute zero (0 K or -273.15°C), where all thermal motion ceases.
⚙️ Rankine (°R)
An absolute scale commonly used in engineering systems using Fahrenheit. It starts at absolute zero, but uses Fahrenheit degrees for intervals.
